The blockchain industry has seen the rise of DeFi services in 2020, and as we enter 2021, the focus on NFT services has increased dramatically in the first quarter. This is then driven by the rapid growth of GameFi and NFT games, including Axie Infinity, which has continued to scale rapidly since the second quarter.
In the most recent quarter, UAW (Unique Active Wallet) per day reached 1.54 million, up 25% from the previous quarter and 509% from the same period last year, growing at an accelerated rate over the past year. In addition, the market cap of NFT in the Top 100 Ethereum collection and NBA Top Shot rose to an estimated US$14.19 billion, while UAW connected to NFT games was +140% QoQ. Splinterlands' average daily UAW in September grew by a staggering +1,376% QoQ to 238,000, making it one of the most-played dApps in NFT gaming. Axie Infinity, on the other hand, has become the most traded game in the NFT collection, with a total of over US$2 billion in NFT transactions. The overall volume of transactions in the NFT space was US$10.67 billion, up 704% from the previous quarter. Ethereum and Ronin for Axie Infinity accounted for 77.73% and 19.53% of the total, respectively. Other DeFi segments are also heating up again with the integration of Terra, Solana and Avalanche as DeFi players, whose TVL (Total Value Locked) reached US$178.12 billion, up 53.45% QoQ. (*5)
In the last two months, Sorare, which operates a game that uses soccer players as NFT cards, has raised US$680 million (*6), while Dapper Labs, which also operates NBA Top Shot and its digital collectibles for soccer with LaLiga has raised US$250 million (*7). Animoca Brands, which operates The Sandbox, raised US$138.88 million in July 2021 (*8). Sky Mavis, which operates Axie Infinity, has raised US$152 million in new funding (*9). As a result, the total market capitalization of Sky Mavis in this round of funding was 29.9 billion U.S. dollars (*10), combining the value of the stocks and the market value of the number of tokens issued, ranking fifth in the world in terms of market capitalization after Activision, Nintendo, Roblox, and Electronic Arts. These four companies are strong leaders in this market in terms of the scale of their funding and the scale of their services.
Below, we compare AKIVERSE to Axie Infinity and The Sandbox. We will point out problems that each platform is currently facing/expected to face and how AKIVERSE has advantages over them making it able to maximize the opportunity in the market.
